What is Napier Grass?

Napier grass, also known as elephant grass or Uganda grass, is a tall, fast-growing perennial grass native to the African grasslands, now produced in many countries.

Renewable & Green Energy

Ditch the fossil fuels! Napier grass is a renewable resource, providing a continuous source of biomass for clean energy generation.

Fast Growth & High Yield

Time is money, and Napier grass thrives on time! Its impressive growth rate means quicker harvests and higher biomass production compared to traditional crops.

Sustainable & Earth-Friendly

Sustainability starts with the soil. Napier grass promotes healthy ecosystems by improving soil structure, preventing erosion, and sequestering carbon dioxide.

Farm fields to power plants!

Napier grass can be processed into biomass pellets through a series of steps.

Harvesting

Harvesting Napier grass involves cutting the mature grass stalks close to the ground using specialized equipment such as mowers or forage harvesters. The harvested grass is then collected and transported for further processing or storage.

Harvesting

Dewatering

Dewatering of Napier grass involves removing excess moisture from the harvested biomass through mechanical pressing or drying methods, such as air drying or using specialized equipment like a screw press. This process increases the efficiency of subsequent processing steps and improves the quality of the biomass.

Biomass Pellets

In pellet making using pellet mills, dried Napier grass is fed into the mill where it's compressed through die holes under high pressure, forming cylindrical pellets. Heat generated during compression softens the lignin in the grass, binding it together, resulting in dense, uniform pellets ready for use as biomass fuel.

Application

In thermal power plants, biomass, including Napier grass, is burned in boilers to produce high-pressure steam. This steam is then used to drive turbines connected to generators, generating electricity while reducing reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
